Installing vCenter with External Platform Services Controller

Installing vCenter Server: Stage 1

The Deployment:

Prerequisites:

  • Complete an installation of an External Platform Services Controller
  • Ensure you have pre-configured DNS entries in Active Directory
  • Ensure you have the relevant access to an ESXi host or vCenter
  • I would suggest, if connecting directly to an ESXi host, you disable DRS or set it to manual

Mount the ISO, launch explorer and browse to D:\vcsa-ui-installer\win32 or whever your cdrom drive is and launch installer.

Click Install

Click Next

Accept the terms. Click Next

We now need to install the vCenter Server as we have already installed the Platform Services Controller. Select the vCenter Server and click Next.

Fill in the information for where you would like to place your VM (target install location). Click Next.

This certificate warning will appear. This is only due to the application installer not trusting the machine you are deploying to. Click Yes to accept the warning and continue.

Configure the VM name (this is what will be visible in vCenter) and the root password. Click Next

Select your deployment size. As this is only a lab, I selected Tiny with a larger storage base.

Select a datastore and click Next.

Fill in the information for your new VM. Click Next

Review that everything is correct. Click Finish to begin the install.

The install is under way.

Once the deployment completes, we can begin with Stage 2. Click Continue
